The Phenomenal One here, and I would like to take a moment to discuss AWF match types. Most of you should be familiar with the standard match types of professional wrestling, but in that off-chance that you aren't, here's your crash-course. And there's at least one type you've never heard of, I'm sure. So, without further ado, let's begin, shall we?
- Single
This is your standard one-on-one, pinfall/submission match with countouts and disqualifications on. Methods of victory are as follows. You can hold the opponent down for three seconds, measured at the referee's discretion, or force your opponent to submit to a submission hold. You will also be awarded the victory if your opponent, being the incompetant moron that he is, gets himself disqualified or counted out. A countout constitutes remaining outside of the ring for a ten-count, at the referee's discretion. Disqualifications constitute the use of an object on your opponent (other than rings ropes, turnbuckles, etc.), and whatnot. In addition, disqualifications may also occur if a submission hold is held for a five-count after the ropebreak, or if a choke is held for a five-count. All counts are at the referee's discretion, if I hadn't emphasized that point enough...
- 3/4-Way Dance (Also, Triple Threat and Fatal 4-Way, respectively), Six-Man (free for all)
The same as a standard Single match, without countouts, and an additional one, two, or four people entered. Some four-man and all six-man matches are elimination rules.
- Tag Team
In essence, the same as a standard Single match, but with minor changes, such as the addition of two other people, making two teams of two. These generally follow the same rules as Single matches, though only the legal men are subject to pins, submissions, and countouts. Tag Team matches may also be contested under "Tornado Tag" (where all men are legal at all times), or elimination rules.
- Six-Man Tag
The same as Tag Team, with an ADDITIONAL two people added, forming two teams of three. May also be contested under Tornado Tag or elimination rules.
- Hardcore
There are only two rules in this match type: 1) first pin/submission wins, and 2) all other rules go out the window. Anything and everything is legal. In essence, no countouts, no disqualifications, falls count anywhere. Truly the REAL MAN's match. Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, Tornado Tag, and HT5 (three teams of two) rules.
- Mayhem Arsenal (Also, Extreme Rules)
No disqualifications, no countouts, first pin/submission wins, more weapons than a Hardcore match, but falls only count inside the ring. Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, or Tornado Tag rules.
- Ladder
There is only one way to win this match: climb the ladder, and grab the prize hanging above the ring. Anything goes in this match. Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, Tornado Tag, and Six-Man (free for all [called "Money in the Bank"]) rules.
- TLC
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, oh my! Ladders, tables, and chairs litter the ringside area. Not only are these weapons legal, they're ENCOURAGED! Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, and Tornado Tag rules.
- Hell in a Cell
A chain-link cage is lowered around the ring and the ringside area. The cage is a weapon, so don't let it go to waste! No disqualifications and no countouts apply here. And, falls count anywhere, even on top of the cage! Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, Six-Man (free for all [called Armageddon Hell in a Cell]), and Tornado Tag rules.
- Steel Cage
A solid, steel, cage is lowered onto the ring apron. Two rulesets exist for this match: escape, and the addition of pins and submissions. In either case, escape the cage, or pin/make the opponent submit to win. Countouts can't really exist here, but disqualifications are out! Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, and Tornado Tag rules.
- Table
The rules are simple: put somebody through a table to win! Though, the execution of this seems to be rather difficult... No countouts, disqualifications, pins, or submissions. Can be contested under Single, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, Tornado Tag, and Tornado Tag (elimination) rules.
- Last Man Standing (Also, "I F%!&ING OWN YOU!")
There are no pins, submissions, countouts, or disqualifications, here. Just bludgeon your opponent until they can no longer continue (determined by the referee's ten-count). Single rules only.
- First Blood
AIM FOR THE HEAD! This match can only be won by making your opponent bleed. Single rules only.
- Graveyard (Also, Buried Alive)
Some guys just won't stay dead... Force the opponent into the coffin on the entrance ramp and slam the lid on him to win the match. No countouts or disqualifications. Single rules only.
- Jersey Street Brawl (Also, Parking Lot Brawl)
When a fight breaks out in the parking lot, it's fun for the whole family! No rules apply, but since an unconscious man can't fight back... Single rules only.
- Ironman
The competitors are given a time limit. The one to score the most falls in the given amount of time wins. Disqualifications and countouts apply. Single rules only.
- Submission
Pins, disqualifications, and countouts mean nothing. Make that guy tap out! First submission wins. Single rules only.
- Ultimate Submission
In essence, the Submission match contested using Ironman rules. No disqualifications, countouts, or pins, the one that scores the most submissions in the given amount of time wins. Single rules only.
- Execution Chamber (Also, Elimination Chamber)
A gigantic structure is lowered around the ring, and four competitors are sealed in air-tight tubes, and every minute, one of them is released into the match. Don't question it. Last man/team standing is the winner. Can be contested under Six-Man (free for all), and Six-Man Tornado Tag rules.
- Royal Rumble
10, 20, or 30 competitors are chosen to enter at random. Eliminations are over the top rope. Last man standing is declared the winner.
- Wild X
AWF original match. A time limit is set for the match. The first half is submission only, and for the second half, pinfalls, countouts, and disqualifications become active. At the end of the time, the competitor that scored the most falls between both halves is declared the winner. In the event of a draw, a sudden-death, one fall, tie-breaker is ordered. The winner of the tie-breaker is then declared the winner. Single rules only.
- Blood Moon
AWF original match. Any number of participants between three and six are chosen, and set loose in a no-holds-barred,-may-the-most-hardcore-win match! Blood Moon is won when every competitor but one is bleeding. This one left standing is the winner.
This has been the Phenomenal One's AWF match type lecture. This lecture is subject to change, and we may add or rename match types in the future, so pay attention.
