Every year, MWL gives its talents an opportunity to prove themselves in multiple tournaments, two of which are annual traditions: Good Saint Mike, and the Dead Heat Tournament. The 2007 tournament, won by "Mr. Reality" Shane Warner crowned the first MWL North American Champion. 2008's winner, Red Norton, was allowed to book MWL as he saw fit during Michael Jamborgh's week off. 2009's winner, Kouryuu, hand-selected challengers for every MWL championship, resulting in all but two championships changing hands. With the Dead Heat Tournament this year expanded to thrity-two men in the qualifiers, what prize awaits the winner of this year's sure to be hard-fought competition?
The camera fades in to show the Redline roster collected in the cafeteria following Xtinction, the members of the X, including the newly-recruited Noizy Tribe in a corner. Michael Jamborgh eyes the group before beginning. "Tonight, everyone, we will be organizing the qualifier teams for this year's Dead Heat Tournament." He gestures toward a small box on the table before him. "Within this box is thirty-two pieces of paper, two of each number, one through sixteen. I would like to get this done quickly, so would everyone please step up and draw a single slip of paper?" Michael then waits patiently as the massive group shuffles about, stepping forward to claim their lots before stepping back into the seating arrangements.
"...Alright, so, when I call your number, please raise your hand." Michael states.
"Y'know, it's been a while since anyone's answered my open challenge. About a month now, as I recall. And since it looks like nobody in the back is willing to face me, it looks like I'll have to take the fight to them!" With that, Rozman drops the microphone and begins to climb out of the ring. He pauses when an unfamiliar theme hits the sound system. Nathan folds his arms and steps backward as his challenger arrives.
Xtinction saw Nathan Rozman defeated via submission by MWL newcomer, Cyrox, who answered the call in his debut at the event.
--Cyrox, MWL Newcomer--
"So we now find out just how much of a sore loser Nathan Rozman is. Instead of accepting that someone bettered him after all of his open challenges, he proves he's just as pathetic as he makes everyone else out to be. We shall see just how this develops now that he's been bested at his own game."
--Nathan Rozman--
The shot fades in to show Nathan Rozman seated in the locker room shared between him, Bryan Krash, and Keith Kizairian. In one hand is a small dumbell. The straps of Rozman's singlet have been pulled down and a towel draped across his shoulders as he repeatedly lifts and lowers the weight. "Could I have handled my loss tonight a little better?" Nathan pauses. "Probably. But submission is my game, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be shown up by some rookie who waltzed into the arena on his first night and slapped on a lucky hold. The little bastard's gonna be lucky if he makes it to Uprising."
Following the two-on-one handicap for the MWL World Heavyweight Championship, the members of the X made their way to ringside to assault challenger Shane Warner.
Yugo slowly steps backward, before stopping abruptly as he bumps into a massive figure barely out of the camera's view. With a nervous gulp, Yugo slowly turns around, the camera panning with his gaze. There, behind him, stands the towering figure of Osiris. Yugo lets out a loud yelp and begins to backpedal. Osiris reaches out with a single hand, catching Yugo by the throat. Osiris pulls Yugo back in and speaks as the camera sneaks in closer. His words are unheard as he hoists Yugo up and chokeslams him straight into the mat, the impact echoing through the arena.
--Osiris--
"Once again, I have proven to everyone that I am the bane of the X. The only difference this time is that I have come to nip this little problem in the bud, and I shall rid not only MWL of the X, but the entire world."
--Yugo Ryan, Leader of the X--
Yugo is seen walking through the hallways, the members of the X in tow as the camera approaches. Yugo looks to the camera before speaking as the group continues walking. "Am I surprised Osiris came here? A little bit. He's made it his one mission in life to be a pain in my ass and truth be told, I can't say I ever expected him to come to my backyard. He's big, yes. He's strong, yes. But I...I'm brilliant. And as big and strong as Osiris is, if he actually thinks he poses a real threat to the biggest names in MWL today, he's SORELY mistaken."
In the midst of Xtinction, reigning three-time MWL World Hardcore Champion, Freaky, lost his title to newcomer William James.
--Freaky, former MWL World Hardcore Champion--
Freaky is seen walking down the hallway after the Xtinction show. He sighed and ran his hand through the hair that wasn't up in his blue fauxhawk.
"Okay WJ, you got my belt. Question is: can you keep it? You and me, locked inside a steel cage. Only way to win with the belt is to climb for the skylights and get out. You decide when. Christmas, Halloween, Mother's Day, Groundhog Day, doesn't matter when. I'll be waiting for an answer." Freaky put his hand of the camera's lens and pushed it out of his face as he walked on past down the hallway.
Just moments before the MWL World Heavyweight Championship bout, Noizy Tribe members and number-one contenders to Free Radical's MWL World Tag Team Championship, Chance Louthan and Travis Taylor viciously attacked Shane Warner.
--"Soldier of Fortune" Chance Louthan--
"Did I not tell you MWL would be changing in a big way?!" Chance laughs, looking toward the ring from his seat high up in the nosebleed seats. He turns back toward the camera. He raises one hand and holds up two fingers. "Wednesday. Wednesday, me and Travis are going to take Free Radical, beat the hell out of them, stack them up in the middle of the ring, get the one, two, three, and you will be calling us your NEW World Tag Team Champions." Chance then points to the camera with a single finger. "Jimmy, Nick, that's not a threat, that, my friends, is a PROMISE.
"As for the rest of you? Hrmph, things are just getting started!" Chance laughs as he stands up and walks out of view.
